Post-Quantum Cryptography Readiness
Know your quantum exposure before your data’s lifetime runs out.
DefendEdge’s Quantum Readiness Trust Test finds classic crypto on your network, scores your readiness, and remediates through the same team that runs your firewalls and SOC.

Attackers can record encrypted traffic today and decrypt it once cryptographically relevant quantum computers arrive. Data that must stay secret 10+ years — banking records, health information, intellectual property, government data — is already at risk.
1
Record today
Encrypted traffic captured as it crosses your network
2
Store
Data held until quantum decryption becomes practical
3
Decrypt later
Once a quantum computer arrives, recorded secrets open
Why now: deadlines, not hype
The migration to post-quantum cryptography is now a dated compliance obligation, not a prediction. Three milestones set the clock:
2030
NIST IR 8547
RSA and ECC are deprecated after 2030 and disallowed after 2035 under NIST standards and guidelines.
Dec 31, 2030 / 2031
Federal high-value systems
Under EO 14412 and OMB M-26-15, federal high-value assets and high-impact systems must adopt post-quantum key establishment by December 31, 2030, and post-quantum digital signatures by December 31, 2031.
2030–2035
NSA CNSA 2.0
Software and firmware signing transitions began in 2025. CNSA 2.0 requires exclusive post-quantum use in browsers, servers, cloud services, and equipment by 2030–2033, with broader transition complete by 2035.
For banks: examiners and cyber-insurance carriers increasingly expect a cipher inventory and evidence of migration planning — PCI DSS already requires knowledge of the cryptography in scope.

What you get: a Trust Score and readiness levels
Every Trust Test produces a quantitative Trust Score (0–100) built from your cryptographic inventory, exposure, agility, and operational practices — evidence you can put in front of an examiner, auditor, or insurer.
Trust Score sample
68/100
Sample score — inventory complete, hybrid deployment underway
L0
Unaware
No visibility into cryptographic assets
L1
Inventoried
Catalog of algorithms, keys, certificates, and protocols
L2
Prioritized
Risk-ranked by data lifetime and system criticality
L3
Agile
Crypto-agility tested; algorithms swappable without re-architecture
L4
Hybrid-deployed
Post-quantum hybrid protection live on priority systems
L5
Quantum-resistant
Post-quantum algorithms standard across the environment

The program: eight phases
Scoping to reassessment — a repeatable path from unknown exposure to defensible readiness. Black Beam is the always-on external layer; DefendEdge staff deliver the full Trust Test.
1
Scoping & intake
Define crown-jewel data, secrecy lifetimes, and the systems in scope.
2
Discovery
Find classic crypto across external services, certificates, and network handshakes — powered by Black Beam.
3
Risk mapping
Rank every finding by data lifetime, system criticality, and exposure.
4
Crypto-agility testing
Verify how quickly your platforms can swap algorithms without re-architecture.
5
Trust Score report
Quantified 0–100 score with readiness level and audit-ready evidence.
6
Remediation roadmap
Sequenced migration plan with owners, dates, and hybrid-deployment steps.
7
Monitor cadence
Black Beam watches for regressions and new exposure between engagements.
8
Reassessment
Scheduled re-score to prove progress to examiners and insurers.
Two timelines: compliance floor vs. strategic protection
Banks and organizations with long-lived data face two different clocks. One line tells you which track you are on: if your data’s secrecy lifetime plus migration time extends past 2030, use Timeline B.
| When | Track | Timeline A — compliance floor | Timeline B — strategic / HNDL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Now | Both | Record an inventory: where RSA and ECC protect long-lived data. Score exposure with a Black Beam scan. | Same — but also map where data must stay secret past 2035. |
| 2026–2027 | Both | Prioritize and pilot: hybrid TLS on internet-facing systems; crypto-agility testing. | Same — and begin migrating crown-jewel data stores, not just perimeters. |
| 2028–2029 | A | Hybrid post-quantum on all internet-facing and high-value systems. | Complete hybrid coverage for all long-lived data paths; retire classic-only systems. |
| 2030 | A | Federal-style deadline: post-quantum key establishment on high-value systems; TLS 1.3 support everywhere. | Regulator and insurer evidence package: Trust Score trend, inventory, roadmap. |
| 2031–2033 | A | Post-quantum signatures on high-value systems; CNSA 2.0 exclusive-use windows open. | Continuous monitoring for classic-crypto regressions via Black Beam. |
| 2035 | A | Full migration: classic crypto disallowed under NIST standards. | Verify and document quantum resistance end to end. |

Direct answers to the questions we hear from security and compliance leaders.
Do we need quantum computers in production for this to matter?
No. This is a cryptographic migration program — inventory, risk, agility, and roadmap. The work is protecting data against harvest-now-decrypt-later collection that is already happening.
Will migrating break our applications?
Not if it is staged. We deploy hybrid configurations first — classic and post-quantum together — so nothing breaks at cutover and rollback is instant.
How is this different from a penetration test?
A pen test proves an attacker can get in. The Trust Test answers what an attacker could later read: which classic crypto protects your longest-lived data, how agile your platforms are, and what to fix first. Inventory, risk, agility, roadmap — not exploit theater.
Does Black Beam replace the Trust Test?
No. Black Beam is the always-on external layer: it continuously discovers your public crypto exposure and feeds the Trust Test. DefendEdge staff deliver the full assessment, and Black Beam keeps watching between engagements.
Who is this for first?
Banks, federal contractors, healthcare, and critical infrastructure — any organization whose data must stay confidential well past 2030 or that answers to examiners, auditors, and cyber-insurance carriers.
